Brand new FREE local music!

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Do you know the Bocumast record label? They are one of my favorite sources for local music. Today they put out two brand new releases that are available for FREE on their website! Click on the pictures for direct links to download them…

“Free Radicalz!” is the work of Thundercade aka Ryan from BDRMPPL. Booty beats and electronics.

“Opened Captioning” is the work of Yawntron aka Shane from Wire Faces and Tom from Iuengliss. Like an electronic version of Hella, but even crazier.

And if you want MORE free, local music to download, check out the Gypsy Cab Co.’s new CD. They are a group of high schoolers from Denver who came together over their mutual love of the Black Lips. They may be young, but they are pros at writing catchy garage songs.  They’ll also be playing a live set on Under the Mattress on August 16th!

Radio1190 – Best Non-commercial Radio Station

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Looks like some of the Westword Best of Denver awards were
announced today online and Radio1190 is pleased to be recognized once again! The full list of awards will be published tomorrow.

Best Radio Station — Non-commercial
Radio 1190
By its very nature, Radio 1190, the University of Colorado at Boulder’s station, has a very fluid staff, with DJs coming and going at various times of the year. But despite these frequent changes, 1190 has some important constants. The vast majority of hosts are more interested in exploring the variety of independent sounds being created today, as opposed to focusing on the most predictable or heavily hyped stuff — and instead of phonying up their presentations, their straightforward talks comes from the heart. That’s giving it the old college try.

Fort Collins Music Experiment

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Did you know that Fort Collins is home to tons of great bands? In fact, so many that they’re putting on the first ever Fort Collins music festival this April! It’s called FoCoMX and it’s happening on April 10th and 11th at 12 different venues in downtown Fort Collins. A two-day pass is only $10 until April 1st! Then the price goes up to $15. Some of the bands I’m excited about checking out are: Otem Rellik, Feeling Beastly, Candy Claws, M. Pyres, Rad Vibes, The Tanukis, Chad Price and Paean.
