This week at the IFS, and WTF?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

When was the last time you’ve taken advantage of the awesome film series in Boulder on the CU Boulder campus called the International Film Series?

Here’s this week’s films:

SKILLS LIKE THIS
BOULDER PREMIER! Slacker Heist Comedy Shot in Denver with Local Actors; Special Guests: Donna Dewey (producer) and Greg “Freddy” Camalier (executive producer)
Wed April 8, 7:00 only

BIGGER THAN LIFE
Rare Archive Print of 1955 James Mason Tour de Force
Thu April 9, 7:00 & 9:00

SILENT LIGHT
Gorgeous Cinematography Shines in a Rural Mennonite’s Test of Faith
Fri & Sat April 10 & 11, 7:00 & 9:30

ALUMNIGHT WITH JASON MCHUGH
Q&A with Actor/Producer Colleague of Trey Parker and Matt Stone
Sun April 12, 7:00 only

So those are the films on the roster this week. I saw the premiere of Skills Like This at the Denver Film Fest in 2007 and thought it was fun to watch so that I could guess where they were filming since it was all filmed in Denver. I also think Alumnight will be fun too! Hope to see you at IFS this week!

Oh and before I sign off, I love Japanese robots, but what the hell?

Ciao,

Hey, the International Film Series resumes today and there are some wonderful films programmed this week. If you listen to Radio 1190 when I’m on-air on Wednesdays from 4-6pm you know that the series’ director Pablo Kjolseth joins me to talk about the films and to give away free passes to see them.

Well today I have something special for you if you are a cinephile and love going to the IFS! Radio 1190′s Spring Pledge Drive starts this afternoon and while I’m on air today I’m going to offer up a “Frequent Patron Punch Card” to the first caller that wants it between 4 and 6pm!

What does this mean? You support Radio 1190 by calling 303-735-ROCK and for your support of 6 watts or more you can get the IFS punch card which gets you into 10 films (and free parking validation for the Euclid Auto Park) plus Radio 1190 goodies like our new t-shirt. Oh and the pass doesn’t expire which gives you plenty of time to redeem it. So I hope you consider supporting two of the community’s best resources for film and music by donating what you can to the Radio 1190 Spring Pledge Drive.

Here’s a sneak peek at the films this week-

This week at the IFS

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Well friend, sadly there’s no IFS this week. This means my friend Pablo who programs it won’t be on the show with me tomorrow to give away free tickets… so I expect you to call and make a request or just call to say ‘hey’! IFS is taking a Spring Break 2009 hiatus and will resume April 1st.

The rest of the films on the calendar span awesomeness from all over the world like France, Japan, Denver…
So what to do until the IFS resumes…

SNUGGIE up with a loved one and watch a film from home.
<3,

MY PICK OF THE WEEK IS… tough to decide:
While the Brakhage Symposium is going to be wonderful, I have to go for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I saw this at the IFS during its original run and I just thought this was such a fun film. And the director will be at the screening this week, so its extra COOL! Oh and did I mention there’s free admission!

Go to the IFS website for more info.

See you at the movies!

Go to the IFS!

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

When was the last time you went to the International Film Series? The IFS offers the best films (old and new) to be seen on the big screen in Boulder. And its the cheapest place to see a film too.
If you’re strapped for cash you can tune into the show I host Wednesdays 4-6pm for your chance to win tickets (that’s you plus one) to see any film you want!

Here’s what films are playing at the IFS this week:

WEDNESDAY MARCH 4, 7 & 9:30pm
12 Monkeys
* Classic Terry Gilliam film
THURSDAY MARCH 5, 7pm
Times and Winds
* Coming of age Turkish tale
FRIDAY & SATURDAY MARCH 6 & 7, 7 & 9pm
Time Crimes
* Totally creepy looking Sci-Fi film from Spain
SUNDAY MARCH 8, 7 & 9pm
The Pool
* A film by the guy who did American Movie!
My pick for the week is: Time Crimes
I wanted to see this at Sundance last year, but it was sold out. Here’s the trailer… OH, and don’t let this character creep you out-

Hope to see you at the IFS,
