High Frickin’ Five

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Hey Friends,

What a weekend. How was yours? I attended Mixed Taste at MCA Friday night, hosted an outdoor screening of the cult film The Room Saturday night with homemade ice cream cupcakes and well today went to a child’s birthday party, how’s that for summertime?!  I noticed Facebook was all amuck this weekend with peeps looking for Bon Iver tickets for either of the two sold out shows. My guess is that the shows were sold out because people thought that Bon Jovi was playing. JK. Did you go? How was it? Did Justin Vernon’s voice translate onstage as well as his record? While talking about Bon Iver at my house last night, the crowd was mixed… okay, well I was the only one of us who admitted to liking the record. In fact, the conversation quickly shifted to how great the Dirty Projectors album is…

If you’re new the the 1190 blog, I’m DJ Alisha and I like to post five things I’m digging on. I call this High Five!

Here’s what’s on my radical radar now:

5289_1.jpgGeeky Dreamboats… it reads like a Teen Beat magazine. Who’s your favorite nerd crush? Its tough to choose, but my ongoing nerd crush is Jason Segel and it has been for years! He had me at Lady L.

Food Party is my new fave! Here’s a taste of this kooky show on IFC:

visioneers-poster.jpgYay! I’m gonna see Zach Galifianakis’ film Visioneers at Starz on July 29th! I’m having second thoughts on my “geeky dreamboat,” Zach Starts-with-a-GAL-ends-with-a-KISS Galifianakis may be my ultimate crush.

The UMS is coming up. I decided this year that I would see bands that I haven’t seen perform before. I’m working on my list, but if you want to suggest your band or a band I should see, please comment below! <3

BUY ME THIS FOR MY BIRTHDAY IN OCTOBER:

And lastly, I wanted to give a high five to Richard Kelly’s The Box. Its not out yet, but I’m anticipating it. This is the guy that did Donnie Darko and Southland Tales. His third film sounds awesome and weird like usual and he wrote the film based on a six-page short story he read. The Arcade Fire composed the soundtrack, along with Owen Pallett from Final Fantasy.

Well take care this week and stay cute. My social calendar is filling up quite nicely with a Slim Cessna’s Auto Club concert, my self-imposed watch two Alfred Hitchcock films on my outdoor screen and the big pancake-bq! Oh and more FOOD PARTY!

Ciao,
djAlisha.
