DJ Alisha here, and here’s five things I’m loving on this week-
)Black Star reunites for some upcoming shows. Its cool enough that I want to give it a high five, but unfortuantely the shows are in NYC and I mos-definitely can’t fly out for them. What’s this mean???? Talib Kweli and Mos Def performing together onstage on May 30th for two shows in one night on May 30th at the Nokia Theatre. How awesome is this??? Let’s just say there’s a lot of fans like me waiting for this to happen. Maybe this means that their forever-rumored second album will come out sooner than never?! I mean, its been 11 years and this gives me hope!
)And speaking of reunions, this one is a REALLY BIG DEAL and for a cause! The two remaining Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr performed onstage last night at Radio City Music Hall for the first time in seven years to raise money for the David Lynch Foundation. The money goes towards efforts to teach one million at-risk youth how to meditate. It was reported that people paid up to $2000 for tickets to the show which also had musicians like Moby, Donovan and Mike Love from the Beach Boys join them onstage for backup. To be a fly on the wall…! David Lynch is such a cool character, have you tried his coffee? I got some as a gift and its super good, kinda pricey but delish!
)Watching Summer Heights High on DVD. The show is a 12-episode mockumentary series out of Australia written and starred in by comedian Chris Lilley. Think The Office set in a public high school. The show focuses around three characters all played by Lilley – Mr. G the gay drama teacher, Jonah the naughty Samoan grade 8 kid who thinks he’s the best break-dancer and my favorite of the three Ja’Mie the mean girl private-school exchange student in grade 11. It takes an episode or two to get into it, but I guarantee its worth it!
)New Nintendo DS game Rhythm Heaven. I just got it so I haven’t really had time to play but I love these types of games. For you DS people, think Elite Beat Agents. But then again if you know DS, I’m sure you already know both these games and have been looking forward to the release of this too. Anyways, Rhythm Heaven came out today along with the release of the new DSi (which I want, but don’t need) and the music you tap along to is great!
)Jon Glaser’s new tv series Delocated. Its a new tv show on Adult Swim about a guy who is in the witness protection program but has his own reality show so he wears a ski mask while the cameras are on so his identity isn’t revealed…oh and he has a digital effect on his voice which is funny (think when people are filmed for local news but don’t want their voice to be recognizable). I’ve watched the first two episodes and they’re totally ridiculous but I like it. Jon Glaser is this comedian I like who does this skit called “Tiny Hands” which I’ve gotten hours of enjoyment from. Also, if you like Paul Rudd, he’s in the first episode.
