Happy Birthday War of the Worlds Broadcast

October 30th, 2009 by DJAlisha

23jr885.jpgToday is the 71st anniversary of the original and greatest ever media hoax… Orson Welles reading H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds as if it were a live broadcast of real-time events.

In honor of that, many stations across the country are reairing his broadcast. It is also being aired at waroftheworldstribute.com. If you are interested in kicking it retro style tonight, you can tune into the online broadcast of this at 8PM ET which is 71 years to the minute that Orson Welles scared the shit out of a bunch of people.

THE SNOW MUST GO ON: Are you in Boulder? Come to the IFS!

October 28th, 2009 by DJAlisha

DJ Alisha here. I wanted to let you know that the IFS will be open despite the snowy weather.

HAUSU (Wednesday 7&9pm): Tonight is a showing of the kookiest Japanese film I’ve ever seen. I blogged about it last May here… If you’re in Boulder please BRAVE THE SNOW and go see it, it will make your life.

DEAD SNOW (Thursday 7&9pm) A Nazi-zombie horror film from Norway, need I say more?

I CAN SEE YOU (Friday 7&9pm): This is a new horror film made here in the US that I cannot even describe, but am looking forward to watching!

DJ Alisha’s Haunted 13!

October 28th, 2009 by DJAlisha

Ya know, its Halloween and here’s some stuff that relates to/doesn’t relate to this spooky occasion.

1)760934673_l.jpgHaunted House Season! Okay, I love going to haunted houses, but I have to admit I close my eyes through the whole thing and hold onto the shirt of whoever is in front of me and make sure that I have a friend behind me as well, BUT I LOVE THEM!

I just learned (via my awesome googling skills) that the people who put on my favorite haunted house The Asylum are the ones that do 13th Floor Haunted House downtown and a new one called Bloodshed which is a totally hillbilly horror house a la Texas Chainsaw. Yes, I will be going to all three of them this year and bought my tickets. Maybe I’ll see you there on Thursday night. Here’s a link to all of them. Oh and one of the guys who puts on these houses each year is a Radio 1190 listener and Watt Owner and I think you should support “local” businesses and go to them (and no they aren’t paying me to say that, I just thought you might like to know).

2)Like Horror Films? Well my favorite week at the International Film Series is this week and its dedicated to the genre. Tune in around 4pm this Wednesday to win free tickets for any of the films playing this week! Here’s the lineup…

3)Polaroid relaunching instant cameras, film in 2010!!!!!!!!

4)New Todd Solondz film!

5)’Star Wars’ Gets Into The Halloween Spirit With Stormtrooper Zombies In ‘Star Wars: Death Troopers:

6)Bicycle Film Festival is in Denver Oct 28-31st!

7)I will play you this song while I’m on-air on Wednesday like I’ve done every year since its release:

8)Werner Herzog is starting up a film school?

9)OMCuteness! Jarvis Cocker’s son, can you say MINI-ME?!tumblrkrkzk1rhad1qzftww.jpg
10)9126_152820338161_700088161_3428673_3475536_n.jpg

11)The lead chick from Be Your Own Pet ditches band, releases solo album and does a duet with Iggy Pop. And she’s only like 19/20. What a cutie and lucky girl…

…oh and did you see Thurston Moore?

12)I discovered where the wild things are… in Fever Ray’s latest video:

…the video is directed by Andreas Nilsson who does Fever Ray’s live show as well as The Knife. Its a cover of a Nick Cave/Anita Lane song, which I much prefer the original.

13)WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS GONNA BE FUN! Go see Radio 1190’s own Uncle Jeff and some of his greatest silkscreens at his art show “Signed Sealed & Delivered.” Deets are on the flyer:
signed-sealed-baurs
…I’m gonna try and make it to this, but I might be cutting it close since I will be djing on-air from 4-6pm and it gets over at 7pm. If you get to go and I don’t, comment and let me know what you thought of it!
****NOTE: Signed Sealed & Delivered” has been cancelled due to weather.

Have a great Halloween my little pumpkin!

djAlisha.
