Happy Cinco de Mayo! I love May, it should be summertime anyday!
What else am I loving on…
Jazz handzz go out this week to Radio 1190′s new CD of the Month for May. Its a band called NOMO. 1190 has chosen their album Invisible Cities as our premiere album of the month. You might have heard of them. They’re from Detriot. This is a band that’s new to me, but I’m digging the Fela-inspired jazz they make. I’ve only heard a few songs, so I’ll have to give it a longer listen at the studio. Its out on Ubiquity, which is a great label, home to artists like Brakestra and Greyboy.
1)The Streets’ (aka Mike Skinner) “He’s Behind You, He’s Got Swine Flu” song and video…
2)As my friend Brandon says, “Peaches and Fischerspooner have albums out today, what year is it?!” Yes, they do and I’m down with it, I need some dancey summer jamzzzzzz from some “classic” electroclash groups.
3)The Faint and Ladytron tonight at Ogden!!!!!!!!
4)Finally saw The Wrestler! It was just as great as I’d wanted it to be. RAM JAM!
5)Hausu: I love this quirky, weird, Japanese horror film and I was just overly-excited about the film again because my friend Pablo is going to watch it and now I will know someone else who has seen it and we can discuss it. If you’ve seen it, let’s chat about it!

PS: Jazz handzz & a high five to Baby’s Gang “Challenger” song! The most amazing pop culture gem about the explosion of the Challenger next to that Punky Brewster episode! Second thought… I don’t know if they’re singing about the explosion or about the rocket before it launched……?!

Wow! Mike Skinner works fast! I’d love a rundown of all the horror flicks used in the video.
“The Wrestler” was great. Mickey’s best work since his rapping on “Shining Star (Makin’ My Love)”
