Earlier this week I saw in a press release with a little note about Hot IQs‘ show at the Bluebird on June 19th – **This will be the LAST Bluebird Theater show for the Hot IQs!** How weird! Either the band was breaking up or the Bluebird was going under. I hadn’t heard anything about the end of the Hot IQs, but of course it didn’t seem very likely that the Bluebird was going anywhere. Westword reported a few days ago that the band is in fact calling it quits. Eli Miskin told them that, “We’re all growing up and we’re all doing our own thing,” says Mishkin. “It’s time. We felt like we’ve outdone our wildest dreams what this band ever hoped to do. So we’re all super excited and content, as far as that.”
The Hot IQs have always been dear to Radio1190. In fact, Elaine and Eli met as DJs at our station! The indie pop band had a very successful run as Denver’s leaders of the witt-rock genre. I remember seeing them in Fort Collins twice when I was in high school. At one of the shows I went to the merch booth to get a button from Bryan and realized that one of the cool things about local bands was that you could actually connect with the members of the band. I was a really shy, awkward teenager but Bryan made an effort to chat with me and I still have my button. That sure didn’t happen at the big name pop-punk/ska shows I was going to at the time. Be sure to catch these guys at one of their last shows! 1190 will miss them dearly.

Individual members are still working on their own projects too! Eli has been playing solo acoustic shows and Bryan is involved with Accordion Crimes.
