Last night David Cross rekindled my love affair with the brilliant Mr. Show. Monotheism, Airplanes, Coors light, Health Care Reform were all fair game for the renowned comedian, actor and writer.
Here’s a gem from Mr. Show with Bob and Dave.

DJ Alisha High Fives ‘n Fives ‘n Fives…
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009Long time no five, eh?
Here’s a long doozy of stuff that has made me happy/laugh in some sort of way…
FYI: This is stuff I’ve bookmarked since my last high five, so it may seem a little less timely since its been a few weeks. <3
Because Neil Hamburger+Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy=AWESOME!:
Because I love video toaster:
Drats, I’m missing this today:
BikePortland reports that the Lips are getting the naked cyclist mob together for the video for the Embryonic track “Watching the Planets”. Wednesday, September 23, they’ll be shooting on Portland, Oregon’s Mount Tabor. Wayne Coyne told BikePortland that the idea came from the musical Hair: “You know how it’s a bunch of freaked out naked people climbing some mountain with blood and fire and finding some new civilization there– so I thought of Portland, right?” Of course.
Here’s how Coyne describes the video’s concept, which sounds, in a word, ridiculous: “I’m having one of my giant space bubbles covered in fake fox fur. It’s going to look like some giant fur egg, and the people on bicycles are gonna sort of be born and erupt out of this fur, vaginalistic thing. Maybe I’ll even get naked for the video, too. I don’t even know how it ends– maybe it ends with them all getting clothed and making me get naked and shoving me back into the giant fur egg. I just came up with that right now.”
Because I LOVE LOVE LOVE David Bowie:
David Bowie has received one of the most unusual tributes of his career. A newly discovered Malaysian spider has been named after the rock star.
The giant yellow – and very hairy – spider has been named Heteropoda davidbowie and is the most recent discovery of German spider specialist Peter Jäger, who has found 200 new species in the past 10 years.
Most of these arachnids are endangered, and by naming spiders after celebrities Jäger hopes to attract public attention to the dangers facing each species. “It is working against time,” he says. “Along with the species, we are also quickly losing genetic resources that have evolved over more than 300 million years.”
Because I have an iTunes gift card:
Because I love all things Mike Judge:
Might be cool, no?!:
Because who doesn’t love to get LOST sometimes:

In celebration of LOST’s final season and as a project of fan appreciation, 16 top designers and artists, who are also fans of the show, were commissioned to create artwork celebrating one of the series’ most memorable, and unforgettable, “water cooler” moments.

Stingray Sam
Saturday, September 19th, 2009It was great to have McAbee do a Q&A after the screening (in which it was a double-feature alongside his film The American Astronaut). He talked about what it was like to cast and work with his young daughter in the film, writing the songs and why he’s inspired by the futurism of yesteryear (think 50s sci-fi).
My hope is that if you missed the Colorado premiere last night that you’re at Starz in Denver seeing it right now. Lucky for you he’s releasing the film as webisodes and you can watch the first one right here-
Have a great weekend and happy viewing,
djAlisha.
PS: Oh and here’s a snippet from The American Astronaut. The quality from this clip doesn’t give the film justice, so if you haven’t seen The American Astronaut, support indie film-making and buy it directly from Mr. McAbee:
PSS: I would like to say the film world needs more Cory McAbee’s but I would be happy with McAbee making lot’s of films for our viewing pleasure! Now only if some rich producer would exploit McAbee’s genius by putting some cash forward so he can create the long-awaited Werewolf Hunters of the Midwest.

Arrington de Dionyso @ Rhinoceropolis September 2, 2009
Thursday, September 17th, 2009Arrington de Dionyso, bombastic frontman from the legendary K-records trio, Old Time Relijun, performed a solo set this past Wednesday at Rhinoceropolis in Denver. OTR’s mystical, energy laden, exotic, sound is as derivative of Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band as it is James White and The Blacks, with the minimal lo-fi aesthetic of fellow K-Records luminaries Beat Happening. Arrington’s solo set was no different with respect to these aforesaid elements from what an Old Time Relijun fan would come to expect. Minimal, mystic, shamanistic incantations, and universal musical folklore, all combined in a mind-bending sonic pastiche.
Atmosphere was provided by two overhead projectors, not unlike the ones we all remember from high school civics class, projecting Arrington’s anamorphic characters (see any OTR album cover) via transparencies and black ink. Accompanying texture came in the form of an Indian drone box (Ragini) box, placed against the springs of a snare drum and mic’d, creating a sonic tapestry resembling tanpuras in full drone amidst a shower of ball-bearings.
The bright light bulbs of the projectors created an aura that made one feel as if they have somehow reached the pearly gates whilst being conscious in this waking life. St. Peter was there, bespectacled, mustachioed, and throat singing like a Tuvan pastoralist, using his body as a membrane to facilitate the transfer of the his vibrations to the audience.
Never before have I seen one individual perform so much music with so minimal of a set up. Throat/Overtone singing, bass clarinet (wrapped in tin foil), jaw harp (Lamellophone; thought o be the oldest instrument in the world), all executed with virtuosic precision. A likely candidate for the Radio 1190 top 10 performances of 2009.

Brian Jonestown Mystery
Tuesday, September 15th, 2009- Brian drowned at his estate, formerly owned by Winnie the Pooh author A. A. Milne
Allegations surrounding the 1969 death of Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones continue in the weeks since British cops announced plans to re-examine the case. According to Reuters, the band’s former road manager accused a former chauffer of killing the guitarist.
Sam Cutler claims the band’s now-deceased driver, Tom Keylock, was responsible. Keylock allegedly wheedled a deathbed confession some 16 years ago out of his friend, Frank Thorogood, a builder working at Jones’ house who immediately became a prime suspect in the case.
While there is no hard evidence tying either Keylock or Thorogood to the rocker’s death in his own swimming pool, Cutler claims Keylock behaved suspiciously in the ensuing days, removing or destroying items at Jones’ estate. Cutler also says Keylock was the only suspect in a private investigation that Allen Klein, the Stones’ manager at the time, commissioned because he had little confidence in the local police.
“He investigated Brian’s murder with all the resources he had available to him and Klein thought that Brian had been murdered,” Cutler wrote on his blog. “Tom Keylock was the prime (and only) suspect named in that report.” Keylock and Klein both died this past July, leaving Jones’ passing — officially deemed “Death by misadventure” — a long-standing mystery. When pressed for a statement by Reuters, representatives for Klein’s ABKCO Music label and the Stones declined to comment.
As for Keylock’s motive, Cutler told Reuters in an interview, “My gut feeling is that he was ripping Brian off on some level or another.”
