August CD Of The Month

Lese Majesty

- Shabazz Palaces-

(pronounced Lay-zey Majesty)

When the lights dim down on these hot summer evenings, you need the perfect soundtrack to escape from the mundane day-to-day at your summer job. For the late night chill sessions on your porch, let Lese Majesty by Shabazz Palaces take you on a hazy head-trip like no other hip-hop album can.

lesemagestyFormerly of the Brooklyn-based Jazz Rap trio Digable Planets, Shabazz Palaces truthfully follow up their critically acclaimed debut Black Up with a dizzying intergalactic sophomore release cryptically titled Lese Majesty.  Though the group is deeply rooted in hip-hop, the collective dives deep into the heavily psychedelic side of electronic music that could be found on a Flying Lotus or Thundercat release. Contributions from THEESatisfaction also add a smooth Neo-soul gloss to this dense set of tracks. While the album is rich with musical motifs, the album’s 7 suites glide into one another to make for a conceptual and cohesive listen.

Out on Sub-Pop records “Lese Majesty” is Radio 1190’s CD of the Month for August. If you would like to become a member of Radio 1190’s CD of the month club, check out radio1190.org for all the details.
