April ’12 CD of the Month: 151a by Kishi Bashi

Kishi Bashi - 151aKishi Bashi, the pseudonym of singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter K. Ishibashi, makes his LP debut with the fantastic 151a out on Joyful Noise Recordings. Kishi Bashi got his start as a touring violinist for artists including Sondre Lechre and Regina Spektor. This culminated in opening for Of Montreal on their Spring 2011 tour which led to a collaboration with Kevin Barnes on their new release, resulting in a noticed burst of creativity from Ishibashi. Barnes encouraged him to explore broader use of his first instrument, the violin, and this led Kishi Bashi to right this new release.

Barnes’ inspiration gives this album a refreshingly new sound; a true work of lush avant-dreampop in the vein of Animal Collective, Jonsi and Brian Wilson. A delight to listen to, 151a is perfect for April’s CD of the Month. Radio 1190 would like to thank Twist and Shout for their continued support of the CD of the Month Club.
